Macaron . . .  just one “o”, but for the purpose of being bookish, it just sounds more fun with two!


Lord of the Roons 

Technically, since macaron is spelled with one “o” and not “oo”, it should read Lord of the Rons . . . but that’s just weird. Either way, wouldn’t these be lovely for Hobbits needing a second breakfast? I’m such a Lord of the Rings fan!

Maple with Candied Bacon

Ingredients for Shells
1 cup almond flour
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 large eggs
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon maple extract
1/8 teaspoon copper food coloring (I use Wilton)
Ingredients for Cream Cheese Filling
1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons heavy (whipping) cream
1/2 teaspoon maple extract
1/8 teaspoon salt
 Candied Bacon
Three strips uncooked bacon – cut into small pieces
2 tablespoons agave or maple syrup
2 tablespoons brown sugar
(Cook on stove top until brown sugar becomes solid and bacon is crisp. Use a small strainer to separate grease from the bacon.)

Fah-roon-heit 451  

 I needed something hot and fiery to represent Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, so . . . 

Chipotle  with Chocolate Ganache

 

Ingredients for Shells
1 cup almond flour
3/4 cup powdered sugar
2 large eggs
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla
1 teaspoon crushed chipotle pepper
Ingredients for Ganache
4 oz. Semi-sweet Baking Chocolate
1/2 cup Vanilla Ice Cream

(Melt ganache ingredients together and whisk with an  electric mixer for two minutes. Chill for 30 minutes)

Garnish with a shake of chipotle pepper!

Umblemished-Roons

Recently, I had the privilege of hosting author Sara Ella while she was in Nashville for the Christy Awards. Since I had recently finished the first novel in her YA series, Unblemished . . . I had to make her some book-a-roons! And since her character loves peanut-butter M&M’s, I thought it appropriate to make . . .

Chocolate-Peanut Butter Macarons

Ingredients for Shells
1 cup almond flour
3/4 cup powdered sugar
2 large eggs
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon of almond extract
1/2 teaspoon of violet food coloring

 

Ingredients for Chocolate-Peanut Butter Filling
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
Garnish with a swirl of red icing!
